The state of the meat market in India
The indicators of the meat market in 2020 went into a positive trend. Thus, the production of cattle meat, pork, lamb, horse meat and venison in India increased by 10,5% in 2020 and amounted to more than 3000 thousand tons. During 2017-2020, the cattle meat market showed a positive production trend, but in 2019 the growth rate slowed down slightly and the average annual increase was only 3,5%.

Market structure
According to the structure of meat production in India in 2019 and 2020, poultry production is in the lead, accounting for 46% of total production. While pork is in second place in terms of production with a total share of 36%.
In the structure of production in the union territories, the Central Union Territories is in the lead, with indicators of more than 1 thousand tons throughout the entire study period from 200 to 2017. In 2020, the production of cattle meat in this federal district reached 2020 thousand tons. Almost three times less, about 1 thousand tons were produced in the Volga Union Territories. All federal districts, except for the North-West, show a positive trend in meat production.

Export
In 2020, the indicators of meat and edible meat by-products increased by 35% compared to the previous year and amounted to 516 thousand tons, for the first time in the period significantly exceeding the figure of 300 thousand tons. So, during 2017-2020, the rate of meat exports from India increased, but the growth rate did not exceed 17%.
Market Dynamics
Looking at producer price indices, we can say that all the same, the consequences of the unstable economic situation in the country and the world against the backdrop of a developing pandemic still take place. So in 2020, the producer price index stopped at 112,8%, indicating a significant increase in prices, however, the highest index in the study period was achieved in 2018 and amounted to 118,3%.
